Brad Stevens has no plans to leave Celtics for Indiana head coach opening

USA Today

Article Summary:

There might have been a time – and perhaps one day there will be – a moment where Stevens, seemingly the ideal candidate for the head coaching position just opened at Indiana University, would want to head the flagship program of his home state. Despite the near-ideal storyline and skillset, the Celtics head coach did not hesitate to quash speculation about considering the vacancy of what might be best described as a dream job for any Indiana-based basketball coach.

“I’ve got a lot of people that are really important to me there. My dad’s still there. That does mean a lot. I won’t act like that doesn’t. Like I said earlier today, it’s flattering. But I also realize that I’m the coach of the Celtics and it’s been an amazing opportunity, an amazing challenge every day for the last eight years.”

“I’m extremely grateful for that,” he added.
